JShop Server 2.0 Release Date And License Changes
Important: After discussions with our users we have made some alterations to the announced license changes. The main change for existing users is that we are splitting support from updates. A support package will no longer be required in order to obtain updates for JShop Server and these will continue to be free and time unlimited.
In addition to this, the new pricing will be coming into effect today. Existing licenses will, however, will not be affected as per the original announcement until 18th April 2007 We are pleased to announce that JShop Server 2.0 will officially be released on the 18th April 2007. Version 2.0 adds a host of new features to the system, an improved administration interface and many optimisations. We would like to thank all the beta testers that have been involved in the testing of 2.0 to help make it a solid e-commerce platform. To coincide with the release of 2.0 we are also announcing new pricing and licensing for the system. New pricing and licensing for the system comes into effect on 30th March 2007. License Prices After comparing our prices with our main competitors we have decided to lower the first year cost in obtaining a single license for JShop Server, whilst building in one year of support and updates. In addition, after analysing the usage of the developer license we have dropped the price of this by 100 GBP whilst retaining a higher license multiplier that more accurately reflects the way these licenses are used. Single License: 200 GBP + VAT. This includes 90 days of Tier 1 support and free updates for the lifetime of the product Developer License: 800 GBP + VAT. This includes 90 days of Tier 1 support and free updates for the lifetime of the product Support Packages After reviewing our support logs and analysing usage we've identified a number of disparities in our support packages and costs. These packages have not had a review performed on them in three years and after this review we've decided to make a number of changes:
New support pricing on single licenses will be as follows: Tier 1 Support: 120 GBP + VAT per year (this service provides 1 business day email support) Tier 2 Support: 80 GBP + VAT per year (this service provides 2 business day email support) Tier 3 Support: 50 GBP + VAT per year (this service provides 3-4 business day email support) New support pricing on developer licenses will be as follows: Tier 1 Support: 360 GBP + VAT per year (this service provides 1 business day email support) Tier 2 Support: 240 GBP + VAT per year (this service provides 2 business day email support) Tier 3 Support: 150 GBP + VAT per year (this service provides 3-4 business day email support) Access to the feature voting tool (when available), which will help shape the development of JShop Server in the future, will be granted to all users. The number of voting points that you will receive will depend upon the support level you currently have. Licenses where support expired more than 1 year ago will have no voting points available. Updates Access to updates to the product will remain free for all users. New Re-Branding Addition We will also be introducing a re-branding license addition that will permit the re-branding of the administration system (the front-end of a store has never had to carry any JShop Server branding). These will be priced as follows: Single License: 50 GBP + VAT Developer License: 200 GBP + VAT NOTE: These fees are a one-off payment. Re-branding permits the changing of the JShop Server logos and removal of the JShop Server wording. You may replace the images and logos with your own, although you must not give the impression that the software is a different package. For example, changing the wording to 'My Bath Store Administration' is fine, but wording such as 'WonderCommerce Administration' is not. These prices are applicable to existing licenses as well as we have, until now, not permitted the re-branding of the administration system. Installation Charges Installation charges will remain at 50 GBP + VAT and update installations will be charged at 30 GBP + VAT (this charge is applicable to anybody wanting us to upgrade their store for them, regardless of their support package, and will be applied from the 2.0 update onwards). Update installations exclude the updating of existing templates with new front-end features, although this can be requested at a cost of 25 GBP + VAT per hour. Site rectification, if required due to the non-installing of a security update, will be charged at 50 GBP + VAT per hour, with a minimum charge of 100 GBP + VAT per site, for all licenses in future. Existing Licenses We will be phasing out the current unlimited free support for existing licenses. This will take place over the next 2 years in a total in 3 phases, based on the purchase date of licenses, as follows: If you purchased between 18th April 2006 and 17th April 2007 you will have 2 further years of free standard support If you purchased between 18th April 2005 and 17th April 2006 you will have 1 further year of free standard support If you purchased before 18th April 2005 you will have 6 further months of free standard support In addition to this, whilst within your further period of standard support, you will be eligible to upgrade to either Tier 1 or Tier 2 support, discounted by the Tier 3 support cost. So, if you have a single license and opt for Tier 2, you will only pay 30 GBP + VAT for a year of Tier 2 level support. Obviously those coming close to the end of their free support period can use this to obtain Tier 1 or Tier 2 support for the reduced rate for a further year, rather than waiting for the free support to end and then paying full rate for either Tier 1, 2 or 3. This also applies to those currently running licenses with Enhanced or Priority support. The effect of these changes is that by 18th April 2009 all licenses will be operating on the same basis going forward. We feel that these arrangements are fair and ensure that those who have already purchased licenses at the current costs are not left out of pocket relative to new license purchasers and still benefit from a further period of free support and reduced costs on upgrading their support package. Downloading 2.0 will require the acceptance of an updated license agreement which will confirm these changes. If you opt not to accept the license agreement and continue to use a version prior to 2.0 please be aware that all support for that will cease on 18th October 2008 a period of 18 months from the launch of 2.0. NOTE: Existing single license users upgrading to a developer license will be entitled to carry across their current free support time to that developer license or opt instead for 90 days Tier 1 support
